TRANSPORTATION TO MARMARÄ°S

Updated on: 27th May, 2017

Air transport: The best way to go to Marmaris is by air transport. However, there is no airport in Marmaris. The nearest airports are; Dalaman Airport (94 km, 1h 30 min), Bodrum Milas Airport (130 km, 1h 45 min ) and Ä°zmir Adnan Menderes Airport (295 km, 3 h). Two agencies namely HavaÅŸ and MuttaÅŸ shuttle between Dalaman Airport and Marmaris Bus Station. Departure times of the buses from Dalaman to Marmaris snap to the landing times of planes. Other timetables are published on their websites. Both of the agencies charge for 15 ₺.

Land routes: Distances between Ä°stanbul-Marmaris is 730 km (8 h 30 min), Ankara-Marmaris is 640 km (8 h) and Ä°zmir-Marmaris is 260 km (3 saat). Many coaches shuttle from these three and several other cities of Turkey. It doesn’t matter which way you are coming from, at the end you have pass through MuÄŸla in order to get there, which is 52 kilometres away.

Since, there is a 670 m (220 ft) altitude difference between these two towns, on the way from MuÄŸla to Marmaris, you generally drive downwards. The most remarkable part of this route is the Sakar passage with lots of 180 dergee-turns. This part is quite dangerous during night and rain. But during daytime, it allows you to see the spectacular view of Gökova Gulf. It is almost impossible to stop by the observation deck and shoot a photograph.

There is another modest observation deck very close to Marmaris, which is the first place you come face to face with the town. This place also worths to stop by for 5 minutes.

Things become easier after you reach at Marmaris Bus Station. You can find taxi and public minibuses to everywhere in the town. Taxies do not cost too much, because almost every residential place is located within 10 kilometres.

* Do not be surprised when you see tens of hitch hikers on the way. It’s a convention here, and most of them are college students.
