Updated on : 21st October, 2017

Marmaris is one of the districts of MuÄŸla city, which located on south-west coast of Turkey. Being a natural and historical town, Marmaris attracts many tourists, especially in summer period. Neighbour districts of Marmaris are Ula, KöyceÄŸiz and Datça. The town is 45 minutes away from Rhodes Island. Marmaris has an altitude of 10 meters (33 ft) and an acreage of 866 square kilometres.

On the west, Marmaris is linked with a narrow neck to Datça, and surrounded by seas on other three sides. There are numerous low-altitude mountains and valleys that are formed by little creeks. The highest point of Marmaris is Balaban Mountain on north-east with an altitude of 999 metres (3278 ft). There is almost no flat place in the town except small coastal plains. The mountainous regions are mostly covered with red pines. In lower parts there are incense trees that are endemic to this region.

On the south of Marmaris Bay stands Cennet (Paradise) Island, also known as Nimara Island.  Actually it is not a real island, because it is connected to main land with a very narrow neck. On the north side of Cennet Island there is a small and thin island, namely Bedir. In the middle of entrance to Marmaris Bay there are two more islands: the big one is Keçi (Goat) and the small one is Güvercin (Pigeon).
