AKÇAPINAR

Updated on : 28th September, 2017

Akçapınar is a small and cozy village 25 kilometers (20 min) away from Marmaris. It is located on the main road connecting Marmaris to MuÄŸla, which makes it easily accessible. A large part of the village is settled on the plains, and the rest is on the slopes of the lower hills. The Akçapınar Creek (Akçapınar Azmağı) passes through the village, forms a small delta and flows into Gökova Gulf in Akçapınar (Kitesurf) Beach.

Although, there are many boutique hotels and villas around, the serenity of the green nature around is enough to meet the image of a "village" in our minds. The citrus gardens and flower fields form very pleasant view, especially in spring. The most important visitors of Akçapınar in spring time are the storks. They have been shuttling between Africa and Gökova for thousands of years. They lay eggs and have their incubation period in Akçapınar.

A water sports facility established in Akçapınar provides canoeing opportunities in the charming atmosphere of the Akçapınar Creek. The 12 kilometres-long canoeing route passes through the reeds, and under the historical bridges namely “Gelin Duası (Bridal Pray)” and “Gelin Yıkığı (Bridal Ramshackle)”. These two bridges were built during the era of Suleiman the Magnificent (16th century), before the Rhodes campaign. During the canoeing tour you can also see ducks, fish, crabs and geese in their natural habitat.

Toast Shop of Akçapınar

One of the most famous places in the village is "Akçapınar Tostçusu (Toast Shop of Akçapınar)". This place is located right at the beginning of the eucalyptus way, and is on demand during four seasons. The toast and ayran are quite delicious, and the sausages they use are their own products. But for us, the most delicious of all are the freshly squeezed orange and pomegranate juices. People sell wooden toys and some other decorative products on a stall an the toast shop’s parking lot.

Eucalyptus Way

The first place that comes to mind in Akçapınar is the narrow and long road covered with long eucalyptus trees on both sides. This road is also known as "Aşıklar Yolu (Lovers Road)" or "AÄŸaçlı Yol (Wooded Road)". These trees were planted in 1938 in order to drain a local swamp. Now some of them are already taller than 20 meters.

Despite its length of about 3 kilometers, the road looks infinite because you can’t see the end of the way from the beginning. It is almost impossible to not to stop by the road and shoot photographs. However, it is hard to catch the pose you want in high season, owing to the numerous cars passing by. You need to be patient. And, when seeing the man-made destruction on the bodies of hundreds-years old trees, you don’t need to be patient any more, feel free to swear. I agree with you.

Bonus: You can always buy natural food and daily-fresh fish from the village.
