Bördübet is one of the most beautiful bays of Marmaris, and is located 33 km (40 min) away from the town center. The bay is surrounded by dense forests mostly consist of pine and incense trees. These forests host various kind of wild animals such as mountain pigeons, goldfinches, nightingales, hawks, wild boars, rabbits, squirrels, foxes and badgers.

 

In order to get to Bördübet, first you should take the Datça Road then, turn right at the sign "Bördübet Amazon>" and drive 11 km more. The part of the route after that sign is a narrow and winding road. The first 10 km of this way is a worn out asphalt, which leads you up to “Golden Key Bördübet”, one of the two accomodations in the bay. The rest of the way is a dusty gravel and earth road, passing by the sea at a height that can be considered as a cliff. No matter how beautiful the landscape is, the drivers can hardly notice it. Even worse, there is not even a barrier on the sea side to make you feel safer. You should drive really carefully here. This earth road, being one of the longest 3 kilometers of your life, leads up to the other hotel (Club Amazon), and the villages beyond it.

It is rumored that during the war years, British soldiers discovered this bay, as they were seeking for a secret place to hide from the Germans. The natural beauty of the bay, and the diversity of the bird species here amazed the British. Being influenced by the birds, the British named the bay as "Bird's Bed". As the people of the region tried to pronounce that name, the word “Bördübet” came out. The name is a bit strange in Turkish, but definitely very memorable.

Club Amazon Bördübet

One of the prominent geographical features of Bördübet Bay is that the sea enters into the land, forming a horn about 700 meters long and 200 meters wide. This place is also known as Amazon, Gücük, Günlük or Maden Bay. At the tip of the horn stands the “Club Amazon Bördübet”. This club has been in service since 1980, and has been a natural part of the environment. Club Amazon is especially famous for its gypsy car rooms. These are completely wooden rooms with wheels, and are 15 sqm in size. There's a shower, a toilet, and a ventilating fan inside them. But the most striking part of the cars, is that the ceiling is made of glass, which allows you to watch the night sky from where you sleep, wake you up in the morning with direct sunlight, and let you watch the squirrels on top of your ceiling. But there is also a negativity about the gypsy cars, which is that the cars are positioned close to each other. Club Bördübet organizes beach parties (star picnic) at night, fishing tours early in the morning, and windsurfing, safari, canoe, and boat trips during daytime. Also bicycle tours and trekking can be done in the forest, but unfortunately there are no signs showing the hike routes. There is a beach near the club, which you can walk passing over a wooden bridge. The beach is not very spacious, just a small area under the shades of pine trees with sun loungers. The sea is shallow and water is warm. But, due to its geographical location the bay is often quite windy. Sun loungers and umbrellas at the beach can only be used by the hotel's clients. Outsiders can eat in club's restaurant only if they make a reservation before.

Golden Key Bördübet

The other accomodation in the bay "Golden Key Bördübet" is 3 km away from Club Amazon. This place is more upscale than Amazon, and is more in the zone of a hotel, rather than a camping facility. So, naturally it is more expensive. The hotel rooms built right on the stream, dining halls, open swimming pool, and 360-degrees-terrace are quite successful. Clients can pick up tomato, pepper, eggplant and several other vegetables from hotel's garden. Different kinds of jam and honey can also be purchased from nearby villagers. The activities offered by Golden Key is similar to that of Amazon Club. However, unlike Amazon, outsiders can not take any advantage of Golden Key's beaches or restaurants. Both facilities open their gates to their clients in the last week of May. By the way, there is a helicopter platform next to the hotel Golden Key, which was probably built in order to make it easy for those who are too rich to use the terrible gravel road.

In short, Bördübet is a untouched and peaceful paradise, bout with only two hotels. Club Amazon is for ones who are hungry for serenity, not seek for luxury, and say “A sun lounger and a book are enough for me”, on the other hand Golden Key is for the ones who are keen on their luxury, and have enough money to pay for it. Unfortunately it is not possible for the day-trippers to take advantage of this beauty of nature, because there is no alternative for Amazon or Golden Key. Even, many day-trippers regret the way they have come here. But on the one hand, it's a matter of curiosity, it's your preference...
